It’s Douglas Bruce (what do you expect)

If you live in Colorado and more specifically Colorado Spring then you probably already know who Doug Bruce is. For those of you who don’t even know who this guy is (Consider yourself lucky). Doug Bruce is a very confrontational, self centered politician, and most of all everything he does is about him or is designed to get him attention, and that’s what I want to talk about today.

On 01/14/08 Mr. Bruce kicked a Rocky Mountain News Photographer in the knee for taking a picture during Mr. Bruce's swearing in ceremony, all this after he told the guy not to, something he had no right to do because he was not the sergeant of arms for the house of representatives. Second, he wanted to be sworn in during the regular house business session, which is never done. He was turned down, so he refused to be sworn in. Both of these incidents got him all kinds of attention.

During his time as County Commissioner for Colorado Springs he would make simple meetings last longer then they needed by asking questions and making long winded speeches, again getting all kinds of attention. Mr. Bruce would also go after other people as well like the County Treasurer, the Sheriff and even the county Attorney. Again this kind of thing got him a lot of attention. In short there is a lot of this type of stuff involving Mr. Doug Bruce; all you have to do is look for it in the gazette or just Google his name and you will find a lot of confrontations, check it out for your self.

I would have to ask, with Mr. Bruce being as confrontational as he is, how effective is he going to be as a state representative? If he continues to make his fellow representatives mad and he continues to be very confrontational, it’s going to be hard for anyone to take him very serious. When the time comes to vote to put him back in office, I won’t be voting for him. Ask yourself this one question; is this the one I want to be representing me?

In short, I think Mr. Bruce is nothing more then an attention hound and behaves like a two year old that wants to be the center of attention all the time. You can bet that we have not heard the last of this self centered 2 year old politician. Trust me he will continue to do things that will put him at the center of anything & everything, rather it is good or bad. I think he is an embarrassment to Colorado, El Paso County and Colorado Springs. I for one would not be sorry to see Mr. Bruce just go away.

So, “What say you?” If you know Mr. Bruce, Do you like him, if so why or do you want him to just go away. I want to hear what you think even if you don’t know Mr. Bruce, but you have an opinion, then please let’s here it.

Right, wrong or unethical, you decide

On the 7th I wrote an article about a nominee for the 2007 Darwin Awards. The article which came from their web site talked about a woman that had decided to yell down an elevator shaft to the people on the floor below. She apparently needed something and did not want to call or walk down stairs to get what ever it was. In short, the elevator was coming up and hit her removing ….., Well a very important part of her body, killing her instantly (Check the article below this one for details). The article went on to talk about how stupid she was for doing this, the articles closing comment was “She will be missed by her family, but not by the gene pool”.

Well, within 2 days from the time I wrote about this article, I received 8 comments about it. Most of them found it to be very funny. However, a comment by Justin saw it in a different way. Justin stated that most of the time he finds the Darwin Awards funny, but not in this case. He stated “She may have not been smart, but she still died and there is Nothing funny about anyone dying” He also said “Think about someone in your family doing this and then getting a Darwin while you’re still in pain”. Over all he felt it was very inappropriate to make fun of a family’s loss.

This got me thinking, is it ever appropriate to laugh, make fun of and even joke about someone who has died or been hurt in a very, very stupid way? I thought about all the comedians, TV shows, radio shows, etc. All of them make jokes about people who have died or been hurt in very stupid ways. Now I know that doesn’t make it right, but is it really wrong? Here’s a good Question, What if it was another family member joking about how someone in his or her family died or was hurt. You know, things like how old uncle Joe lit a match to see if there was any gas in the tank and blew himself up, and would that make a difference? Remember, in Justin’s comments he said “Think about someone in your family doing this and then getting a Darwin while you’re still in pain”. Now I would agree that if you are making jokes about someone who was killed or hurt an hour ago, that in my opinion is out of line. So here is the question, how long should someone wait before the jokes start coming? When Princes Dianna died the joke started flying the very next day. So, should you wait a few days, weeks, months or a few years? What is the right amount of time if any to wait? I guess for me it comes down to this, I don’t think it’s funny at all when someone dies or gets hurt really bad. As for all those TV shows, let just remember that those are not real and the actors & actress live another day and will returned to do another show. However, I do think that the way a person dies (Only because they did it a very stupid way) is funny. That’s my opinion, so now you tell me. “What say you”, how do feel about this? I really want to hear from you, if you do or don’t agree with me tell me why, or maybe you thought of something else that I may not have thought about. Either way please let me know what you think.

2007 Darwin Award Nominee

Well, here it is the New Year and as I look back to last year, it is truly amazing to me what all has happened. We have seen both good and bad things in Iraq, the start of the up coming election, mass shootings, etc. However, there is one thing that most people seem to always over look when looking at the year past, and that’s the news articles about stupid people, and not just stupid people, but the really stupid people. One thing I have always liked to do at the end of the year is to read the Darwin Awards for the year. I normally don’t write about them, but this one I just could not pass up. So, here is the Darwin Award Nominee for 2007. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did.

Weight Lift
2007 Darwin Award Nominee
Confirmed True by Darwin

27 July 2007, Guadalajara, Mexico) 24-year-old Jessica was working out in the Provincia Hotel's gym when she realized she needed something from the floor below. Instead of picking up the phone, using the intercom, or just walking downstairs, she decided that the open shaft of the industrial lift was the communications device for her.

So Jessica stuck her head into the empty shaft to shout to the people downstairs. And somehow, she missed noticing that the elevator was coming up towards her. If the elevator had been going down, one could say that she was in no position to observe the approaching lift. But, leaving aside the stupidity of sticking your head into an elevator shaft, if she was looking down, how could she miss the mass of metal inexorably headed her way?

Since an elevator cage and a skull are both solid objects, one had to give. Let's just say, the elevator won. Jessica will be missed by her family, but not by the gene pool.

After reading this I have a few questions. First, how fast was that elevator going? I would have thought that it would have knocked her out of the way before it would have …… Well removed a major part of her body. Second, how many elevators have their doors open all the time when the cage is not even there? Third, how quiet was that elevator, after all she must not have heard it moving. No matter what the answer is for these questions, this woman is one of the stupidest people for 2007 and she hands down gets my vote.
