WHAT THE HECK are you thinking?

Let me start by saying that I like mixed martial arts. I think it is by far better then then boxing. Now, with that said I must say that I am very disappointed to see an article like this. It seems there is a mixed martial arts gym that is going to offer some fighting skills for the protesters that are going to be at the DNC next week in Denver (Complements of that far left group known as "Recreate 68").

According to the web site "www.cagepotato.com" Denver's Gumm Mixed Martial Arts Academy says:

Brad Gumm, who once beat Joe Stevenson…and then lost the subsequent rematch) is opening its doors to the protesters to help them learn some fighting skillz before it all goes down in the streets of Denver.

This does not help to show mixed martial arts in a good light. If anything it gives them a very bad name in the eyes of people who don't understand the sport and may even turn off some who might be looking into the sport for the first time. Further more, when you have statements like this:

Nothing would please me more than to turn on the news coverage of the
DNC next week and see protesters triangle choking each other in the
streets. Then, just when it turns into a chaotic, but highly technical
Battle Royal, Barack Obama will have to come outside and start knocking
people out with his patented Superman punch just to restore order.
That’s executive power I can get behind.

Now I will say this I don't think this is the view of all mixed martial arts and not everyone in the sport should be condemned because of one stupid statement. I think this kind of stuff is just plain irresponsible and should be condemned not just by people who can us their brain to think reasonably, but it should also be condemned by those in the sport who don't share the same point of view. I don't think those in the sport of mixed martial arts want to be shown in this kind of light.

You want me to do what?

A few days ago I heard something about Colorado Springs police that was rather disturbing to me. Let me set this up by telling you two very short stories that are true. A few weeks ago a lady was south bound on Academy near Chelton when she was struck from behind by a lady who made a last second lane change. They both got out and the one who made the lane change did not want to call the police because she did not have any insurance. However, the police were called due to damage to the vehicle she had hit. The police officer checked to make sure everyone was OK and talked to both persons involved. Now here is the part that really bugged me, the police officer then told both of them that he did not have to do a report on the accident, instead he gave both of them a paper so that they could exchange their information. Down at the bottom of that paper is a place where the officer is to sign his name and all he put was “N/A”.

If you think this is an isolated incident, here is story #2. A guy road his scooter to Wal-Mart a few days ago and parked it near the front door. He was in the store about 5 to 10 minutes. When he came out he saw a lady standing next to his scooter, which was now all scratched on one side. He asked her what happen, she told him that 3 guys came out dressed in black trench coats and looked at the scooter and then kicked it over. She told him that they walked away laughing and got into a black mini coop and then drove off. He then called the police and an officer came out. Once again a Colorado Springs police officer said that he did not have to do a report. After a long argument the officer finely did do the report. After the officer had left the witness told the guy I guess what they say about Colorado Springs police is true, referring to the fact that the officer did not want to do his job.

Now, let me say that this, this is not a reflection on all Colorado Springs police officers, most of them are very good officers. But like they say in the military “One oh crap will wipe out a bunch of at-a-boys every time” so leave it to a few officers who don’t want to do their job to give a bad name to those who do. I think this is sad, we pay them to do a job and when it comes down to it, some of them don’t do their job. Taking a report for a minor accident or an act of vandalism might not be as exciting as a bank robbery or a high speed chase, but it is part of the job and should be treated with just as much importance as any other incident. By the way the lady that had her vehicle damaged and the guy whose scooter was kicked over were from the same family and these two incidents occurred about 2 weeks apart. So what you may say, well if two people from the same family can get two different officers that do the same thing, then the chance that you might get an officer like these two are fairly good. After hearing this I have to believe this is not an isolated incident and most likely happens more then we know of. It is no wander that people don’t trust or have much confidence in the Colorado Springs Police department. When you find officers like these two you have to wander, are they going to do their job or not? If they don’t like their job or don’t want to do their job, they should just quit and let someone else in that wants to do the job and do it right. Again I want to say that this is not a reflection of all the officers in the Colorado Springs police department, most of them are very good officers, it is the few bad ones (And you know who you are) that this article was written about. Over all, I think we as citizens of Colorado Spring need to let our voices be heard rather it is through writing articles such as this or by calling the police departments and let them know how we feel about things like this. End the end I guess we should think long and hard when they start to say things like we are under paid and need more money. Ask yourself this question, why should we give them more money when they don’t want to do their job? Just something to think about.
